Teaching Opportunities at International Schools Near Heidelberg

Finding opportunities for work when moving to another country can prove to be trying and difficult. Finding teaching jobs can be even more of a challenge, especially when facing language barriers and certification issues. Luckily, there are options and opportunities available for English speaking natives living in or near Heidelberg, Germany.

Heidelberg International School

The Heidelberg International School educates international students from the preschool level through the high school level. The school is an International Baccalaureate World school, offering the Primary Years Program, the Middle Years Program, and the Diploma Program—instruction at this school is given primarily in English.

The staff at the Heidelberg International Schoolis a diverse group, coming from a variety of nations. In order to become a member of the teaching staff at the school, a few requirements must be met. A Bachelor’s Degree, or its equivalent, or a higher degree is required. Applicants must also possess a teaching certificate from their home country and be a native speaker of the language they teach. Training in the International Baccalaureate program is beneficial, but not required—an understanding of the German language is also beneficial, but not required. International School Stuttgart

The International School Stuttgart is roughly an hour and a half away from Heidelberg by car or public transport. The school educates children starting at age 3, all the way through to graduation from high school. The International School Stuttgart offers the International BaccalaureatePrimary Years Program, Middle Years Program, and Diploma Program for its students—the school puts great emphasis on multilingual learning. Some students attending are learning their second, third, and even fourth languages.

The staff at the International School Stuttgart is comprised of over 40 nationalities, though the majority of staff members are from the United States, Germany, the United Kingdom, and Australia. Most of the teachers at the school have had experience with the International Baccalaureate programs. Teaching English

Another option teachers have while living abroad is teaching English. There are language learning centers that can cater to a variety of students, from families to business professionals. One language learning center located in Heidelberg is Berlitz.
